PCPR YOUTH BASKETBALL -
The purpose of the Platte County Parks and Recreation Basketball Program is to instill the ideals of teamwork, good sportsmanship, commitment, and self-improvement.
Our goals are to provide:
- A healthy, safe environment for practices and games
- The opportunity to learn and play the game of basketball
- An opportunity for physical activity
- To provide a positive and enjoyable experience
We believe that involvement in youth activities will provide opportunities for personal growth and development. Our program is designed to be recreational, where winning is secondary to the overall development of our youth.
1st-2nd Basketball
This is a 4-week program that meets on Saturday, Jan 14, 21, 28, and Feb 4 and open to Boys and Girls in First and Second grade. This is an instructional, skills based, program designed to introduce young players to the game of basketball. First grade time is 9:00 - 9:50 am, Second grade time is 10:00 - 10:50 am. Boys Basketball - 3rd Grade and 4th/5th/6th Grade

Our 3rd grade program is held in Jan-Feb at West Elementary School. The program will focus on teaching and practicing fundamental basketball skills. Practice sessions and game sessions will be scheduled depending on registration numbers and gym availability. Parent volunteers and certified basketball coaches serve as the instructors. Players will receive a team t-shirt.
Our 4th/5th/6th grade program will start in Mid Oct and finish in mid December. We begin the program with a skills night and practice. All players will be placed or drafted onto teams. Additional practice times will be scheduled by individual coaches. Practices and games will be scheduled to begin after Christmas and played at WMS following a few weeks of practice. The season will culminate with a tournament. Parent volunteers and certified coaches serve as the instructors. Each participant will receive a team t-shirt. Program focus will be on fundamental skills, modified game play, game knowledge, basketball rules, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Girls Basketball - 3rd Grade and 4th/5th/6th Grade
